Bye Bye!

Simon learned to wave goodbye! The sideways one is the best, but I don't know how to make it not sideways. He did it first by the couch as Jenn was walking out the door... We were amazed and so excited! Then we pulled out the phones to start recording (always thinking of you!). I think he got a bit sick of waving goodbye after a few times - we did not get sick of it. It is so adorable!

Cribbing

*sigh*
My son has started cribbing. Colleen and I had a mini revelation when we realized that maybe that was the root of the horse type cribbing. Why would you chew on wood? At least you can now be sure that he has four VERY SHARP (though now I suppose slightly less sharp) teeth - even if our pictures aren't great yet.

Our poor, bored baby did this in a matter of maybe 10 minutes
after waking up from his afternoon nap this week.

We've resorted to tying a blanket on the crib
and have dropped the mattress to the lowest setting.
You can see the fun new decorations on his walls though!

Goodnight Moon

Arizona Family Trip

We had a great time in Arizona. Lots of sun and no sun burns! The best combination possible. We went for lots of walks and spent a lot of time relaxing. Simon was great on the flight there, though I will try to avoid flying with him alone again. It's hard work to keep a curious boy entertained and still for the whole four and a half hour flight. And man is he getting big! Last time we flew he fit so snuggly in my lap, this time I had to keep gathering little hands and feet off of the nice lady sitting next to me.  It didn't help that he only slept about twenty minutes (poor tired mama).

In Arizona Simon had his own car seat, a pack and play and even a stroller for walks.  Despite the great digs Simon didn't sleep well the first two nights, I think because the plane ride made him miss a nap. By the third night he was sleeping normally again - about 12 hours a night with two naps during the day. It's hard to do activities when he sleeps so much, but it's really easy to rest! Yay great food and resting! I went to bed around 9:30 every night. So nice!  On the flight home Alan was there which made juggling baby and toys and snack easier - also the fact that the little guy slept for much of the flight in his dad's lap. It was adorable but I didn't want to jostle anyone by reaching for the camera. More pictures after the jump.

I love watching golf with Grandpa Bart. He even took me to hit golf balls!
I'm going to be a scratch golfer when I grow up.

Hey Mr. DJ, Play a Song for Me

I'm learning to dj.  Start saving for my European tour 2030.

Arizona Sun

Simon loved the sun. He was practicing his crawl, but he would rather walk with his left leg and crawl with the right. He also kept getting distracted by the shadows in this movie. Lots and lots of pictures after the jump.

My two front teeth

Simon is getting his top two front teeth! The one on his left is definitely emerged and in these pictures the one on his right is just barely there. We tried all sorts of things to make him laugh while someone was taking a picture from under him. If you could have been a fly on the wall while we took these pictures.

More pictures after the jump.

Picture of the Day: 2/16/12

While we were in Arizona Simon got some intense practice at pulling up. He found a little ladder (aka the bedframe in our room) and would go up-up-and uuuup to try to reach the top rung, then down down down. Back and forth, back and forth. I was washing my hands (maybe four feet from him) one morning while he was practicing and then I turned around and he was gone! (Still not used to him being self mobile...) He was under the bed checking out the leg that you can see in the picture. I think I'm going to miss the days when he would just stay where we left him!

Picture of the day: 2/15/12

He doesn't usually sleep on his side; it is super cute! Sorry they are so dark, he was sleeping so I didn't want to use a flash. Hopefully you can see them ok.

Airplanes!!

On our way to Arizona... Simon loves the activity! Flight went great, he didn't sleep much but also didn't fuss too much.

Learning to pull up

The past week has been an intense learning week. Simon can pull himself up in the crib. Unfortunately sitting down is a completely different skill set. Don't worry, he forgave me for leaving him standing in the crib so I could get a picture.

Crawling Forward

Last week - Thursday the 9th - Simon crawled forward with Jenn, Colleen and a camera to witness. He has done it a few times since, but really hasn't figured out that he can move. He crawls a couple scoots forward to get something and usually ends it in a dive for whatever he's going for. He is learning to pull up more and more... it's possible he might just skip the crawling.

Naked baby

We were going to give Simon a bath and took the opportunity to take a picture of his really nicely healing back.

He can see clearly now...

Simon had his first eye doctor appointment this morning. Illinois has a great program for a free eye check for kids between six months and a year. He has perfect vision and even had his little pupils dilated to make sure the eyeballs are completely healthy. They are! We talked about our upcoming trip to Arizona and the doctor recommended sunglasses. Actually, she recommends them for here as well. 80 percent of eye damage leading to cataracts and macular degeneration happens before the age of 18! So we got Simon some Baby-bans. He isn't a huge fan, he would much rather eat them, but we will try to get him used to them in the next week before vacation. They have an elastic strap around his head to hold them on and are a fun color. Arizona here we come!

One Month Since Surgery

It has been one month since the surgery. One month ago we were sitting in the hospital waiting for little Simon to get out of the operating room and I was so scared. He came out of the surgery that day recovering and he is doing so well. He has gotten strength back in his legs what seems to me amazingly quickly when I think about it. Only one month! On January 3rd Simon couldn't roll from back to front - now he only sleeps on his tummy no matter how many times we roll him back onto his back. Also in the past month he has learned how to get up into crawling position on his own... and how to crawl backward. He also will get into his baby yoga pose - downward dog. With his arms in crawling position and his legs straight so his butt is high in the air and he's looking at his own knees through his arms. It's adorable. And of course he is standing so much better - balancing on his own with only a finger or two to help or completely by himself on his standing toy. How did all that happen in only a single month!?

His incision is healing wonderfully and he loves having it rubbed - but who wouldn't like a doctor ordered, daily backrub! We are so lucky that he is so healthy and happy and seems completely unfazed by the surgery.

I know! It looks like he's standing. But he's actually leaning against the couch. Movie Magic.

He is so strong. He can easily stand holding on to only one finger. He does try to take a step then and will sometimes fall over, but he's getting there really quickly. I think just a few more weeks until he's pulling himself up.

Jenn took a picture of us before she left today.
