Blueberry picking

We went blueberry picking at Stateline Blueberries this weekend. It was a long drive there (1.5hrs), but a really fun time. We got to run and play and picnic there. We didn't feel like we picked many berries (about 4.5 pounds) at the place, but there were a LOT of berries when we got home. Blueberry pancakes on Sunday!

CCC: Pictures of Lillian and Simon Aug 5

Hi Emily and Alan,

We have had such a busy two weeks here at CCC. We've been working hard on our math skills and fine motor skills lately. We enjoyed working with different puzzles, color sorting and making patterns, tracing our names and writing about our favorites parts of summer. We also worked with cotton balls and used tweezers to pick them up and did a really cool cotton ball painting. We also made an ice cream cone art project. We've been getting much better with our yoga classes and being able to stretch our limbs and bend in tricky positions. Last week, we enjoyed making rice krispy treats for cooking class, and this week we made dirt using chocolate pudding, whipped cream and oreos. We also made moon sand this week out of flour and baby oil, that was really fun to squish and mold! We have such a great time at CCC!

Enjoy!

The Basque Family Workers

Cindy was in town for a conference and turned it into a longer weekend to visit with Ken joining her. Alan and Ken took advantage of the time to build some shelves in the garage. Simon was SO excited to help with the building, but unfortunately had been having a terrible string of bedtimes (like 2+ hours) so he had to go to day care instead of helping. Luckily the guys had a bit of work to finish up on Saturday. After a very good Friday night bedtime Simon was SO EXCITED to help with construction.

Aunt Kathy Visit: July 21-24

Auntie Kathy came to visit and we had a great time. She brought crazy goggles for the kids and they LOVE them and for the first day wouldn't take them off.  Just us adults tried to go out on the town for an evening and on a boat tour to see the fireworks, but the weather had other ideas and a lightening storm with torrential downpours stopped the boats from going out on the lake. It was a fun time and we had natural fireworks!

Simon has shark goggles and Lillian has dougnut goggles.

Kathy and Colleen - Aunts extraordinaire - got the kids lollipops as big as their faces.
Those are two happy kids.
We didn't get one with Kathy included! :(

CCC Pictures of Lillian and Simon

Hi Emily and Alan,

This week was very productive, especially because we had some hot days where we couldn't play outside. We made the best of this heat wave and came up with a variety of activities that were engaging and educational! Earlier in the week, we worked a lot on math activities and challenged our one to one correspondence and problem solving skills. We enjoyed water play early in the week, which is so great to enjoy with good friends and releases lots of energy.

As the days got warmer and we couldn't be outside, we enjoyed plenty of gross motor and science activities indoors. We worked on our core strength on Wednesday during movement class by walking on a balance beam. We also enjoyed going through an obstacle course using tunnels, balance beams and hopping. We really enjoyed playing a game of bean bag toss! It was so tricky to get the bags into the holes but we worked hard.

We made marshmallow playdough that was really fun to mold and squish (and even taste!) using marshmallows, corn starch, coconut oil and food coloring. We had a great time helping mix and form the dough. We also did some ice melting experiments: first, we guessed what would happen to a bucket of ice that was left out in the hot sun. We also explored animals and dinosaurs that were frozen in a block of ice. We chipped away and used warm water to melt the ice and free the animals.

Cooking class was awesome this week! We made tuna salad sandwiches and, surprisingly, many of us loved it! We mixed up tuna with mayonnaise and cucumbers and then spread it on a slice of bread - yum!

We also enjoyed show and tell this week and it was so fun to share our special toys from home.

Have a wonderful weekend!
