Jenn is off to New York this week and Simon is spending the week with Grandpa and Grandma Basque. Like all good grandsons, he is working on getting them wrapped around his little fingers by practicing his new word: Hug. Who could possibly resist that?
Today we gave Simon his first haircut. It was great weather and we just went outside and I cut his hair. It is fair to say that he did not love it. At first he was good. Alan was holding and I was cutting and he was confused but good -- as soon as the snip started he screamed and pulled away. I wasn't expecting that so his left side is a little 90s retro shaved side look. Not what I was going for, but better... right? The back and his right side are pretty good. There were a couple pauses for hysterical tears and some snacks and snuggles with mom and stuffed animals, but we eventually got the whole head. I am surprised at how traumatized he was and how traumatized that made me. A ton of pictures to follow.
While Emily and Auntie Colleen were off in New York for the weekend, Simon and I got to hang out just the two of us for a few days. There was lots of drinking from bottles, babbling, throwing food on the ground and playing with light switches... plus whatever Simon wanted to do.
Mama's gone? Let's party, dad!

Last night I came home to a UPS package on the counter for Simon! It was a Thanksgiving present from his Great Aunt Kathy. We waited until this morning to unwrap it and I got the whole thing in the video below. It was the cutest unwrapping I've ever seen. When he got his last present he wasn't exactly sure what to do with it, but this time he knew exactly what was supposed to happen. When he got to the present he LOVED it. I had to take about 15 pictures before I got one not totally blurry because he was hugging and kissing and playing with the little cat so much. Thank you Aunt Kathy! Great gift!
