Some Kid Stories and Thoughts

I got this quote of the day (below) and thought it so applied to my kids. We expect them both to have down time in their bed before falling asleep and occasionally also have some in the morning (if they wake up before the allowed-out-of-bed time of 6am).

Lillian now, instead of just crying, will add words to her crying when we abandon her in her crib at bedtime. For instance last night after a 10pm tuck in we heard "Mama, I want a hug!" After a couple tries and no response she switched to "Daddy. I need my Daddy." Talk about tugging on the heart strings, and she is not even two yet. After a couple minutes of being ignored by her parents, she calmed down to tell Digit a story and maybe sing herself a song (I was soon asleep myself so don't know).

This morning Simon told me that he was sorry I missed his story time. I asked more and found out he was telling a story to his animals (last night?) about flying unicorns that he thought I would enjoy. I was cordially invited me to come and listen to it again tonight.

Jessie took the kids to the beach last week and they had an amazing time!

Growing like a weed!

At 22 months we measured Lillian. She's grown more than 2 inches since the beginning of June (about 3 months).

Thinking about the best approach...

This worked for Simon, but Lillian knocked her cone on the ground trying to emulate it.

She was just coaxed into taking a bite of the cone. She didn't realize it was edible.
She liked it.

I gave Simon a spoonful from my ice cream cone, he didn't object.

Before Bedtime Talk with Lillian - Reading Prep

Lillian has been skinning her knees like crazy. Almost every day she tells me, at length, about her skinned knee or hurt leg. Even when it isn't freshly bloodied she likes to remember and retell the story of tripping up the steps or falling while chasing Simon. They are such great stories (especially considering she is only 22 months) and I have been meaning to get them on video so you can all ooh and ahh about how advanced she is. So, the day had come, I pulled out my trusty phone and she clammed up! She talks a bit in this video, but mostly she's focused on moving every book from around the room into my lap so we can snuggle in and read some books instead of going to bed. That, at least, she gets from me!

I feel like she speaks clearly in this, but I was doing some repeating of her words to make sure they're understandable for everyone.

Building with Blocks

We spent some time this morning building the tallest building we could. Then we knocked it over.

Lillian Says (18 months to 21 months)

Alan told Lilly she had to eat her eggs before she could have a muffin... They needed to be all gone, no more on her plate. So she dumped all her eggs out onto her tray, held up her empty plate and yelled "All Done!" *sigh*

Lillian Loves spending time in her crib. She never really cries to get out. She will will wake up and sing songs to her animals, play peek-a-boo and generally have a great time with them.

If you yawn she said "you tired?"

When you eat a meal together, after you take a bite she'll look over at you and ask "it good?"

If you sneeze she says "bless you, mama "(sub right name).

She sings to her self... A b c d Cookie Monster!

Counting (when she is a year and three quarters): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, Cheerios, 1

Lilly just held out her (dirty) finger and said proudly, "daddy, I pick the nose!!"

Lillian says PRETTY GOOD in a really funny deep voice. Here she is saying Pretty Good.

Lillian at around 21 months started putting "the" in front of nouns when she talks... "I hurt THE knee." "I kiss THE mama."  "I hi the Jessie." I love it and it makes me smile every time.  Here she is talking about her knee.
