Bagel Breakfast

We went out for bagel breakfasts this morning. Both kids enjoyed the breakfast - Simon loved his Cinnamon Raisin with Plain Cream Cheese and Lillian pulled the egg and sausage out of her Egg, Sausage, and Cheese on a Plain Bagel. She ate the egg and sausage and left the rest for last.

Making sense of the world

Simon amazes Alan and I with the connections he makes. He listens (sometimes more than we expect) and just has such brilliant connections.  Some examples:
  • Yesterday Jenn was talking to Simon and she said something was Ridiculous. He said, I don't think you meant to use that word. That word means funny. She had to explain that there is way to use that word where it means something just shouldn't happen that way.
  • He is sitting in the room playing and ignoring everything around him (we think) and then two days later he will look at you and repeat verbatim what you said.

I was going back and reading the last couple weeks of the Pre-K blog which is still interesting and found a section from Ms Zairel on Simon and a couple of the other boys learning from play. There were some interesting comments on how kids piece together everything in their world to better understand the rules around them.

5th of July 2015 - at Auntie Colleen's place

On the 5th of July, Lillian, Simon and I went to Auntie Colleen and Joe's. We ate and walked to the park and played in the water.

4th of July 2015

Lillian and Simon Counting in the video. On the 4th we did one of my favorite summer activities: played in the backyard. We played catch and in the water table, had lemonade and watermelon and Alan made amazing brats.

Yes, she likes lemonade.

Maggie Daley Park

We went to the relatively new Maggie Daley Park on Friday. The park is near the loop by Grant Park and Millennium Park. The kids had a blast. There were tons of slides and an Enchanted Forest with balance beams and a bolder to spin. They also had huge swings and water play areas. We'll definitely be going back!

Showing off Lillian's split lip

At the park the other day Lillian was chasing Simon and she tripped and split her lip from the inside with her teeth and then skinned her lip, a bit of her nose and both knees. She learned the word hurt, as in 'Knee hurt'. Poor kid. She also became a huge klutz for the next couple days and kept tripping and re-skinning her knees and splitting open her lip. She has still been her sweet happy self when she forgets about the ouch.

Trying to get her to pose for a picture, Simon and I helped show her how to do it.

Eating an Apricot.

Two happy kids...
