Lillian and her Roto-Virus

Last Friday we took Lillian's temperature, but while it was high it wasn't in the fever range so we let it go. She has popped two teeth lately and has been gnawing on things like crazy so I figured she was in an intense teething period.

On Sunday afternoon she had some bumps on her shoulders, but we had been outside so I rinsed her in the tub before bed thinking she was just irritated by something in the grass. But they were still there on Monday morning, not worse just still there. Was it irritation from our detergent? Then after Monday morning nap she was rash city all over her poor belly.

I called the doc and set up an appointment for that evening (at 6:40, ugh). She had also been messing with her head a lot and while I hadn't been worried about it before, now with the rash it took on a new dimension of concern. I took a quick video of it for the doc on our way there.

Apparently our little Lillian has Roto-Virus. It presents with 2-3 days of fever and 2-3 days of itchy rash. 95% of kids under 5 get it, so don't judge us too harshly. Now for the bad part - it comes from eating poop. *shudder* Apparently it is easily transmitted from poop to stick to mouth, or, more likely in our case,  from poop to floor/shoe to mouth - since Lillian loves licking shoes and never hesitates to lick an interesting colored/textured floor. *sigh*  Happily she will be fine completely on her own, no meds required, by the end of the week.

Here she is itching her head. Poor itchy baby. I wish I could think she learned her lesson.

Auntie Amy to the rescue!

Poor Jessie got food poisoning last night so had to call in sick today. Usually both Alan and I have very flexible jobs so one or both of us would work from home in a situation like this. Unfortunately this week Alan has folks in from Europe so had to be in the office and I have a big release this week so had a meeting I had to attend from 8-10 this morning. While we were trying to figure figure out what to do a lightbulb went off - Auntie Amy now lives down the street! Maybe she could watch Lillian from 8-nap time (around 9) and then we'd be golden! And it worked! how wonderful that she was here and could help us out. She amazingly stayed until 1 so I could get some things done in addition to the meeting. Thank you Auntie Amy!

For some totally unrelated pictures from today:

I got this.
Is this an apple?
If not an apple, why would Simon like it so much?

Auto Pitching T

We finally got batteries for one of Simon's birthday presents - a T that pops the ball up in the air for him to hit. He was totally into it but it was totally foreign to him.  The first three pitches the ball hit the ground before he even swung and I wondered if it was too advanced for him. The 9th ball he hit into Mary's yard. By the end of the afternoon we had set up home plate and talked about where he should hit the ball and where to stand so that he was consistently hitting one or two out of every three (we have 3 balls, so after 3 you have to go collect and reset). We used all the batteries that one afternoon.  It was quite peaceful for me though, I just watched from the shade and read and drank tea for almost two hours while he played.

Popped right up, one of the first and he didn't know yet what to expect.
Maybe the 3rd pitch, he is swinging at the ball that is resting at his toes.

Jenn Goodluck Dinner

We all got pretty to head out to dinner with Jenn to wish her luck with school!

TWO NANNIES!

On Saturday we went out with Jenn to have a fun goodbye dinner and Jessie watched the kids. That made for some great pictures with all four of them!

Simon learning to run into the swing.
Who is the tiredest?
(She has not been sleeping during nap time.)
Perked right up when she got to yell into a balloon!
LOVE BALLOONS!!
Doesn't need anyone anymore, she's got this.
