Meetup with Man on Train

Today we went to Lincoln Park for the farmers market with a few other moms and their kids. We had some socializing and some looking at fruits and veggies and then when the group broke up Alan, Simon and I decided to walk a bit more. We made it to Diversey before the torrential downpour hit us and stopped for a delicious burger at The Counter (recommend by Oprah!) and then on to the train. Just after we took the picture a dude walked up to us and said cute kid (or something along those lines). I showed off his 'achievement unlocked' shirt (thanks Jake and Em!) and he made a joke about the baby earning us 10 gamer points. We joked a bit about it and then he mentioned that his wife runs an online geek group. I then very creepily asked if his wife's name was Katherine. You see, I had already joined that group and there was a BBQ today that we hadn't gone to because we did the farmers market. How completely weird is that? That I knew the guys wife's name (group organizer), that it was the same group that I'd already joined and most that we actually struck up a random conversation with this guy!?

Picture of the Day: 9/2/11

Simon spent his first half a day with Britni -- doing tummy time, going for walks and generally having a great day. They were snuggled and Simon was sleeping when I got back from laundry and other not so fun errands. He woke up when she left and we started another round of play/eat/sleep. He has started reaching for the toys and likes it when they move, but doesn't know how to grab and hold yet. I think that will come soon!

Oh happy day

Our smart and advanced son slept from 8 o'clock in the evening until 5 o'clock in the morning. Nine full hours in a row. That is pretty darn amazing!! Alan and I didn't go to bed until around 9:30, but that is still a great long night of sleep with no interruptions. Oddly enough, Simon isn't tired now. He'd much rather play with the blanket (as seen in pictures). In the last couple days he has started holding the edge of his blanket and moving it around. He has also started making noises that aren't crying, a precursor to the babbling that comes before talking. He _also_ now spends more time looking at us. When he is in his bouncer and I walk around he follows me with his eyes. Then will make noises until I come to pick him up or play. Smiles when he sees you are the best!! I've said it before and will again: Our little boy is so advanced!

Simon is sporting a retro look today with lemon leg-warmers showing his willingness to run the extra mile, grey socks to keep the tootsies warm and a classic yet adorable frog onsie.

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Simon has been awesome with tummy time lately. He plays and does a little half pushup (aka 'sphinx pose' - we've been going to lots of yoga classes lately). I've really just been happy that he hasn't been crying when we put him down on his belly and that he moves his little arms and legs almost like he's crawling. Then two days ago Simon suddenly rolled over. I was sure it was a fluke, maybe I just laid him down off balance or something so gravity took over.

Today he showed me how much I had underestimated our extraordinary young man. He easily rolled over six or seven times this morning. He had already done it maybe four times before I went to get the flip camera that Grandparents Basque loaned us. I love the one when he just looks at the camera and then rolls over! What a smart boy!

Three more roll overs after the jump.
